Our program is made stronger by the extraordinary camps with which we partner to provide our students with positive life experiences both in nature and on a college campus. We are fortunate to partner with the following high-quality camps:
Eagle’s Nest (EN) is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains and overlooks the Little River Valley in the Pisgah National Forest. The mission at Eagle’s Nest is to help kids discover their identities. All of the activities offered at EN promote community awareness, a connection with nature, and a healthy lifestyle. Campers build self-esteem by participating in every activity of camp including rock climbing, horseback riding, learning about art, forest survival, or whitewater paddling! To check Eagle’s Nest, please visit the camp website: http://www.enf.org/camp.
Camp Celo is also located in the NC Mountains surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest. The camp’s mission is to teach children an appreciation of the natural world, and instill values of compassion, cooperation, integrity, responsibility and service. Campers care for animals or harvest the garden at the Celo farm. They also participate in rewarding hikes, skits, arts and crafts, woodshop, tubing in the South Toe River, and group games! Camp Hanes is located just north of Winston-Salem, nestled on the hillside of Sauratown Mountain which provides the backdrop for the many activities they provide. The camp’s goal is for each child to increase their own sense of accomplishment and belonging while they learn about the positive character traits of a hero. Campers learn accomplishment through developing skills and trying new activities such as horseback riding, archery, swimming, the Blob and Zip Line. Campers learn a sense of belonging by making friends and being a friend. Living in a cabin with ten other children and two counselors gives each child a lesson in teamwork and relationship building. And the camp teaches character traits of a hero, specifically Honesty, Caring, Respect, Responsibility, and Faith. Camp Hanes places an emphasis on learning from mistakes and always trying your hardest. Visit the Camp Hanes website to learn more:
