Did you know that all children experience a decline in learning during the summer break from school? Research shows that disadvantaged children especially suffer because they have far fewer opportunities for learning outside of the classroom. According to research by Doris Entwisle and Karl Alexander of Johns Hopkins University, roughly two thirds of the ninth-grade achievement gap between lower- and higher-income students can be explained by unequal access to summer learning opportunities.
The Bruce Irons Camp Fund (BICF) is proud to provide excellent learning experiences at high-quality residential camps for five consecutive summers to low-income children in fourth through eighth grades. BICF believes children need quality educational experiences during summer breaks to avoid stagnation in learning, and we intervene during crucial developmental years for students.
The Bruce Irons Camp Fund is a non-profit charitable organization with tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. For more than 25 years, BICF has impacted students in the Charlotte community by sending them to summer camp. Please browse our website to learn more about our mission and camper program.
